The Recovery House is a project of Caravan of Life, Pakistan Trust with on-going technical assistance from Thresholds USA. It is the oldest rehabilitation institutions for mental illness in Pakistan. The clients who visit the center gain insight to their mental illness, understand how to treat it and cope with, improving their quality of life, and are able to participate in the community as functional human beings. It also provides a safe and clean living environment with separate facilities for men and women.
During my tenure at the Vasl Artists’ Collective, I assisted Adeela Suleman (sculptor), in designing and implementing art therapy workshops to senior clients who were suffering from Dementia, Alzheimers, and Parkinsons Disease. The workshops included: drawing, coloring, and painting activities to help support the healing processes of each participant. We also worked very closely with the psychologists and therapists of the center in understanding each clients’ history and acceptance of therapeutic care.
