The Recovery House 🕵️‍♀️

Karachi, Pakistan

How might we facilitate the power of self-expression for the clients at the Recovery House?

The Recovery House is a project of Caravan of Life, Pakistan Trust, with on-going technical assistance from Thresholds USA. It is the oldest rehabilitation institution for mental illness in Pakistan. The clients who visit the center gain insight into their mental illness, understand how to treat it and cope with it, improving their quality of life, and are able to participate in the community as functional human beings. It also provides a safe and clean living environment with separate facilities for men and women.

During my tenure at the Vasl Artists’ Collective, I assisted Adeela Suleman in designing and implementing art therapy workshops for senior clients suffering from Dementia, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson’s Disease. The workshops included drawing, coloring, and painting activities to help support each participant's healing processes. We also worked very closely with the psychologists and therapists of the center in understanding each clients’ history and acceptance of therapeutic care.

** Due to the privacy of the space and clients, photography was not allowed; hence no workshop images are displayed.
